Back in the year 1779, on the trade route to Belgrade, not far from the village of Viševac – the birthplace of Karađorđe – stood a humble log cabin. Modest, yet warm, filled with life, the aroma of roast meat, and the smoke of homemade rakija. It was the cabin of Grandpa Stavra, a small man with a big heart and even bigger mustache, who welcomed everyone as his own.
Weary travelers, merchants, and even Karađorđe himself would stop there to rest, recharge, and share stories over spit-roasted lamb. That log cabin served more than just food – it was a place where legends were passed down, laughter echoed, and hopes and plans were shared.
Centuries later, although that log cabin was lost in a fire, the memory of Grandpa Stavra remained strong. To keep that tradition alive, we decided to bring it back – through the roast house Kod Deda Stavre.
Our space is not a replica of that old log cabin, but it is its spiritual successor. Even today, the aroma of authentic spit-roasted pork and lamb, homemade side dishes, warm flatbreads, and conversations reminiscent of better times still fill the air.
We do everything with care, just as Grandpa Stavra once did – without haste, without pretense, sincerely and with a sense of true hospitality.
Welcome to the roast house that offers more than just food – it offers a story. Bite by bite – here, you eat with soul.
The food is exceptional, the roast meat the most delicious I’ve ever had. The aspic and Miročki cheese were phenomenal, as was the oven-baked bread – hot, fragrant, and soft. Full recommendation for this wonderful place. The ambiance is even more beautiful than in the photos.
